The CloseWikis extension that allows stewards to close and reopen wikis via a special page called "Special:CloseWiki".
Installation
- Download and place the file(s) in a directory called
CloseWikis
in yourextensions/
folder. - Add the following code at the bottom of your LocalSettings.php
wfLoadExtension( 'CloseWikis' ); $wgCloseWikisDatabase = "closewikis";
file: - Run closewikis.sql to populate it with the correct table(s)
Done – Navigate to Special:Version on your wiki to verify that the extension is successfully installed.
To users running MediaWiki 1.24 or earlier:
The instructions above describe the new way of installing this extension using wfLoadExtension()

If you need to install this extension on these earlier versions (MediaWiki 1.24 and earlier), instead of wfLoadExtension( 'CloseWikis' );
, you need to use:
require_once "$IP/extensions/CloseWikis/CloseWikis.php";
Configuration
- $wgCloseWikisDatabase
- This is the database that is shared among your wiki farm.
Usage
To add a wiki to the list of wikis, use $wgLocalDatabases
to define the wikis' databases.
The name of the database should appear in the dropdown list in "Special:CloseWiki".
